The post holder will be a member of the Offshore Division\\\\\\\'s Mechanical Engineering team. The team concentrates on the integrity of offshore mechanical engineering systems, including: lifting operations, pressure systems and machinery. Integrity issues are considered throughout the whole life cycle of the plant including design, procurement, installation, operation, inspection, major repairs and modifications to plant, maintenance and decommissioning.
About the Role
You will be responsible for inspection, safety case assessment, investigation and enforcement of mechanical engineering issues on UK offshore installations. Your technical advice will provide a sound basis for employers to set and maintain their own appropriate safety standards.
The work will involve:
� Providing expert advice on health and safety matters associated with the specialist topics of pressure systems integrity, lifting and mechanical handling and rotating machinery within our client, industry and other stakeholders
� Carrying out inspections with respect to specialist issues as part of the Directorate\\\\\\\'s work plan. Investigating incidents, accidents and complaints as part of a team or individually
� Providing support for enforcement action, including the preparation of technical reports and provision of expert evidence in legal proceedings
� Making technical contributions to the development of industry standards and guidance
� Assess safety cases, drawing conclusions as to their adequacy and acceptability in terms of the integrity of mechanical systems
Person Requirements
Qualifications & experience required:
� A Mechanical Engineering degree
� Relevant post graduate engineering experience in the offshore oil and gas or petrochemical industries
� Knowledge and understanding of the hazards affecting the safe design and operation of pressure systems, lifting equipment and machinery, plus knowledge and understanding of the function and operation of mechanical equipment and integrity management systems.
