OVERVIEW

Our client is looking to appoint a Principal or Lead Mechanical Engineer to deliver outline designs and detailed designs on a programme of water and wastewater schemes. The role will require the successful candidate to work closely with joint venture Delivery Managers and also interface with client Asset Creation and Operations Staff. The successful candidate will also be required to contribute to multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects on programme to budget.

This lead role will require the successful candidate to act as the lead technical focus point for the team of Mechanical Engineers supporting the D&C programme. The successful candidate will also assist with balancing resources, checking and reviewing work undertaken by others in line with the QA systems, acting as mentor to junior engineers and generally be the office advocate for mechanical engineering within the office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

- Delivering mechanical engineering designs to agreed budgets and timescales
- Production, checking and reviewing tech specs and schedules including their customer key deliverables
- Implementation of company QA systems
- mentoring of team members
- Managing other mechanical engineers within the Mechanical Engineering discipline based at regional or site office.

EXPERIENCE / BACKGROUND

Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject

A member of a relevant engineering institution i.e. IMechE

Experience in water industry and preferably previous experience in mechanical design of water / wastewater treatment plants and water / wastewater networks.

Strong Business Development skills to include an understanding of market demand and the ingredients of a successful bid, being a successful networker and having commercial acuity.

Good Project Management skills.

Ability to manage and develop projects from a brief.

Knowledge and skills in the in the planning, specification, design procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for projects in the water, or process industries

Possess sound knowledge of current legislation and able to work in accordance with QA and H&S procedures.

Computer literate with a good understanding of Microsoft Office

Experienced in the management of staff and staff development

Able to integrate well into a team and provide technical management of other staff

Experienced in decision making

Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team and independently

Strong communication skills all levels with the client, suppliers, contractors and our design team � both written and oral
A good client service focus

Excellent organisational skills and able to multi-task

Must be able to plan and prioritise work load effectively
